DETECTO is founded in 1900 in Brooklyn, New York by three immigrant brothers, the Jacobs Brothers. The Jacobs brothers were exceptional at building and repairing foodservice scales.
William H. Perry starts Cardinal Scale in his garage located in his hometown of Webb City, Missouri. WH Perry was an experienced scale industry man and founded the new company as a result of customer needs for a line of special-capacity scales.
The new scale line proved to be so successful that WH Perry had to resign from his previous job at the Webb Corporation in 1956 and devote his full attention to his new and rapidly growing company.
In 1958 an agreement was reached between Cardinal Scale and LR Murphy Company, and the two companies began working together, manufacturing and marketing all-steel, welded motor truck and axle-load scales to all parts of the country.
Cardinal Scale and LR Murphy were closely associated for 15 years, and then in 1973, Cardinal Scale acquired Murphy Scale and completely integrated the operation, with full-service plants in Webb City, Sacramento, and Denver.
Cardinal Scale acquired DETECTO, founded in New York City in 1900, which specialized in manufacturing bakers dough scales, butcher’s scales, doctor scales, hanging scales and portion scales. This acquisition brought an important new dimension to Cardinal Scale, lower capacity foodservice and healthcare scales.
Cardinal/Detecto purchases Fuller Weighing, based in Columbus, OH, and begins manufacturing liquid filling devices and in-motion checkweighers.
Cardinal Scale acquires National Transducers in order to make solar powered scales.
Cardinal Scale requires more production space for their strain gauge load cell manufacturing processes and builds a 15,000-square-ft Load Cell building using solid concrete construction. This building was the only one like it in Webb City and the concrete was formed on site.
Cardinal Scale founder WH Perry passes away on August 19, 2005 and his wife follows on October 19 of the same year. Mr. and Mrs. Perry leave a lasting legacy of loving their community and showing their love by donating their time and money to many local organizations. They were married 67 years. WH Perry's son David continues to preside over the company.
Cardinal/Detecto again needs more production space, this time for truck scale fabricated weighbridges, and completes construction of the new Building 15 on the eastern side of the company's campus.
Cardinal/Detecto releases an all-new complete line of solo, apex, and icon brand eye-level physician scales offering a wide range of revolutionary new features, including digital sonar height rods and thin, flat platforms.
Cardinal/Detecto and the City of Webb City complete the Cardinal Route 66 Park, a tribute to Cardinal/Detecto’s founder and his wife, WH and Marion Perry. The city park is located on the southeast edge of the Cardinal/Detecto campus.
In January 2018, Cardinal/Detecto launches the new ARMOR digital truck scale with advanced weighbridge improvements and iSite remote monitoring software that quickly captures the attention of the truck scale industry.
